Accept vs Except

Accept means to admit, receive, or agree.

  • I accept him to our organization with pleasure.
  • We accept your invitation to the ceremonies.
  • They accept the jury’s verdict with no problem.

Except as a preposition means other than.

  • The student’s grades are low in every subject except science.

Except as a verb means to exclude something.

  • If you except his math grades, Ryan has an impressive average.
