Alliterate vs Illiterate

Alliterate means to arrange words with a repeating initial consonant sound.

  • Most tongue-twisters in Modern English alliterate. (Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.)

Illiterate refers to the inability to read or write or the lack of knowledge in a certain subject.

  • Sadly, 20 percent of their state’s adults are illiterate.
  • Some of the students were computer illiterate.
